The movie Music and Lyrics is a feel good love story starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore about a washed up pop star and a frustrated writer who find each other.

Music and Lyrics, a 2007 film starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore is a feel good romance with appealing lead actors and music that puts a song in the heart.

Hugh Grant portrays a washed up 1980’s pop star named Alex Fletcher, reduced to singing on the state fair and carnival circuit. He is so washed up that he is asked to appear in a reality TV series about 1980’s has beens, an opportunity that stings his ego and he refuses.

Fletcher is offered an opportunity to write a song for a Britney Spears type pop tartlet, named Cora Corman (Haley Bennet) . It turns out that the teen star admires him because she listened to him when she was a child.

Fletcher is thrilled with the opportunity, but has to find a lyricist to match lyrics to his music. while he is arguing with a lyricist in his apartment, Drew Barrymore stumbles into his life as his temporary plant lady. It turns out that Barrymore has a way with words and a collaboration is born.

Alex and Sophie are two lost people who find each other and they are both better off for the union. Predictable, yes, but fun to watch nevertheless. The love story runs amuck over creative differences. When Alex seems to sell out and Sophie is disappointed in him.

Sophie’s older sister, Rhonda (Kristen Johnston) has the remnants of the teenage of Fletcher Haley Bennet sparkles as pop tartlet Cora Corman

Music and Lyrics is fairly light entertainment that is fun to watch. Music and lyrics have a bouncy, cheerful beat that may just leave the listener humming along.
